Provides access to valuable subscriber location information
Includes "direct delivery" to subscribers of location-based SMS
Does not increase SMSC related OpEx or CapEx
Operates independent of subscriber's handset and network
Location based services offer operators an opportunity to increase ARPU and differentiate themselves from their competition. Sevis' Bulk Location Server is unique among location enabling solutions in that it not only provides A or A.bis interface location data, but it can also provide "direct delivery" of application data or messages (such as SMS adverts) to the subscriber via SS7 or IP. This direct delivery capability helps the operator save money by eliminating the need to upgrade SMSCs or pay additional SMSC fees. It also avoids querying the HLR.
The key elements to the Bulk Location Server are the Signaling ASE® Platform, the Subscriber Identification Server (SIS) and a 3rd Party Location Application. Deployed as a passive probe, the Signaling ASE Platform identifies the relevant location information from the A or A.bis signaling streams and then routes this data to the SIS over IP. The SIS in turn resolves the location of the subscriber and presents the data to a 3rd Party Location Application which performs its designated function such as generating location-based SMS adverts. The 3rd Party Location Application then hands the subscriber message/application data to the SIS, which then delivers it to the subscriber via SS7 or IP.
The example to the right shows an A-interface configuration of the Bulk Location Server:
